Inc camera technology empowers the Intel Reader
Tempe, Arizona – November 11, 2009 – Intel has formally announced the
Intel Reader device, from the Intel Digital Health Group. The system
is targeted to enable blind and dyslexic people with an image to text to
speech capability. The Intel Reader is now in production and
available
for
sales through specific channels.
VisionMOS has enabled the
Intel Reader with its camera technology, including advanced processing
algorithms and hardware design. Through these efforts, many challenges
were overcome that enable the device to work with variety of challenging
lighting, focus distance, and fine resolution detail images. The
production release of the Intel Reader device is the culmination of more
than a year of efforts towards this new camera technology.
Intel and VisionMOS teams
worked closely to enable camera integration hardware and software to the
system. The 5 Mpixel camera on the Intel Reader has an micro auto focus
optic, shutter and illumination strobe to support various lighting since
the user may not be able to adjust the environmental conditions. System
software supplied by VisionMOS is a combination of hardware acceleration
and embedded firmware for the Intel Atom processor.
